Protect The Knick Knacks On Your Wall Display Cabinet


Using a wall display cabinet is a great way to save valuable floor space in your home, and still display the precious knick knacks or priceless heir looms that you’ve inherited. However, when you are using a wall display cabinet, there are a few inherent problems that can arise from a faulty installation. While you are working on hanging your display cabinet when you receive it, you’ll want to keep a few tips in mind. We’ve listed them below to help make sure that you are going to have a seamless installation and not come home to find your valuables laying across the floor because the wall cabinet gave way while you were out.

Find The Studs In The Wall – The best way to ensure that you are not going to have your wall cabinet hit the floor is by making sure that you find the studs inside the wall while you are installing it. This can be done by listening to the sound difference when you are tapping on the wall, or by using a cheap stud finder to determine the density behind the drywall. If you are going by the sounds you hear, you will want to lightly tap against the wall, and listen to the distinct differences. The wall studs should be placed 16″ apart, and will have a hollow sound in between them. When you tap directly onto the stud, the sound you hear will be a solid sound, as opposed to the hollow sound when you’ve missed them.

Use Adequate Mounting Hardware – Another way to safeguard your valuables is to use adequately sized mounting hardware. The hardware that is included with the cabinets is usually sufficient, but if you are going to be placing heavier knick knacks or heir looms onto the cabinet you will want to make sure that you’ve added upgraded mounting hardware to support the difference in weight.

Make Sure The Display Is Mounted Properly – This tip is especially true if you are adding upgraded mounting hardware to the cabinet, instead of using the brackets or hooks that were supplied by the manufacturer. While you are installing the brackets you want to make sure that they are centered properly onto the cabinet, and that they line up with the studs in your wall. This process does take a little more work up front, but it is a great way to safeguard your precious display.
